Social Media and the Impact of Everything.
Social media provides us all with some valuable information. It gives us laughs, terror, fear, happiness, and many more emotions everyday. Social media is vital to our society because everyone has one type of platform on their smart phone and it can be so impactful to us. With the recent protests and death of George Floyd it has been showcased every day since his death and I think it shows that we are all in this together. It also really exploits the racism and crimes that is not shown on the news. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/18/technology/social-media-protests.html In this article from the NY times, Shira Ovide compares to how we were all able to see the protests comparing to the 1960's because there was none of this. No phones, no news, nothing. This really pushes us to vote for our next president and still create an impact even months after the protests. We all get to see what our judicial system is flawed and push to create new laws and possible defund the police. Social media is so important to us now to creating this change we have been trying to create for the past 100+ years.
The media is how kids are judged everyday. We have seen countless time how great Social Media can be good or bad. I do believe that the use of social media is important and it can even effect an election or your view of a celebrity. https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/impact-of-social-media/ This article speaks on how social media is irreplaceable and it is. We can get away from it, take a break from it, but there will always be one platform that everyone will use just to see the news, catch up with family members, etc. We cannot replace something that is at the power of our fingertips.
“Social media isn’t a utility. It’s not like power or water where all people care about is whether it works. Young people care about what using one platform or another says about them.”
This quote says it all. I know during the protests it urged me to create a better platform for myself and still follow the correct practice in educating and teaching others how to follow the same practice and avoid racism. It taught me how to become a part of the change. We have the ability to learn so much at our fingertips and become a change to our society. Use your platform to become a part of this change!
