Potluck in the Park
Nearly 15% of Oregonians experience food insecurity. This means that more that between one and two people out of every ten people in the state do not have access to the food they need. In order to fight food insecurity in Portland, is it vital to get involved with local food security organizations.
Fortunately, organizations like Potluck in the Park are working hard to fight this issue, and they encourage anyone who can to get involved. Since 1991, Potluck in the Park has dedicated every Sunday to providing hot and nutritious meals to those in need, citing their belief that food is a human right (https://www.potluckinthepark.org.)
Potluck in the Park celebrates special occasions such as Christmas with the public, so that everyone in Portland is able to enjoy holiday meals and festivities with their families.
Potluck in the Park is currently located between 8th Avenue and Park Avenue on NW Glisan by the North Park blocks and relies entirely on volunteers. If you are able to volunteer and interested in supporting food security in Portland check out their volunteer site at this link: https://www.potluckinthepark.org/volunteers/.
Potluck in the Park also accepts food donations as long as they follow the health guidelines listed on this page: https://www.potluckinthepark.org/volunteers/food-donation-rules/.
