How the Portland State University Food Pantry is Helping Hungry Students
With the recent 11 percent tuition increase and the price of apartments
being unaffordable to most students, it's no wonder students are finding it
challenging to afford even the most basic necessities such as food. But don't
worry the Portland State University Food Pantry has you covered!

Ran mostly by student volunteers, the pantry is open Monday
through Friday, for two hours each day and is free to all students who are
taking at least one credit per term. All that is required to enter the pantry
is to show the volunteer at the front door your student ID card, read that
day's item limits (if applicable that day) and before checking out you'll be
asked if you are taking at least one credit that school term. It's that simple.
The items available change daily from pre-made
sandwiches and salads donated by local grocery stores such as Safeway, Fred
Meyer, Green Zebra, and Whole Foods, to bulk donations such as large shipments
of bread from Dave's Killer Bread. Staple food items such as rice,
beans, and shelf-stable milk are always available but limits per person are
based upon availability.
