Sexism

Women have a hard time being able to dressed the way they want without being labeled as a "Slut" or a "Whore". We have a hard time being able to be ourselves and having to be careful how we look and how we dress so we don't cause any attention to men or even to other women.

Laura starts off her TED talk with experiences she had with men. Where guys would whistle at her or do cat calls at her. She even had an incident where a man tried to touching her inappropriately. It was even while she was on the phone with her mom and she even called the guy out about it. No one around her did anything but looked away and act like it isn't their problem.

To see that happening to women out in the world is sad. Especially when they called out help and people ignored it and just act like they didn't hear anything.

She talked about how people say "take a compliment" or "you're overreacting", she actually just let it go and believed them. She didn't think much of those situations and thought she is overreacting about things. But once she did some research she saw that women are not equal. Which is true and sad to say.

Women get sexual harassed in work settings and outside. But some women are too scared to speak up about these situations because they are scared people are just going to brush them off. They are scared people won't take it seriously or they would get fired. Some women feel gross and shameful after those things have happened to them. They at time feel embarrassed to step up and talk about the situations.

Laura talked about how women are asked to do sexual things to get their bonuses or get a raise. Men take advantage of the situation and women gets desperate. There are so many different situations that happen out there that not many of us know about.

We need to step up for women who are getting sexually harassed. When we see something that is wrong we need to step in and make a difference. We need to unite and make change and don't let people think it is okay to do that to women and try to get away with it.

Get educated about this sexual assault. Understand that this is a big issue in the world and make a difference. Stop those who think they can get away with this and let those who have been a victim know they can speak up.
