LGBTQ+ in Religion - Ethan Behee

The LGBTQ+ community continues to experience discrimination and exclusion within religion, but as the global trend toward acceptance continues, more LGBTQ+ people are able to find a religious community that will welcome them.

Unknown to me until I grew older, I attended a Lutheran Church with a "welcome all" policy from the time I was born until I left home to attend University. This environment definitely formed positive ideas of the LGBTQ+ community in my mind. However, when I visited other churches it didn't always feel the same.

Certain religions and religious denominations certainly have varying degrees of acceptance when it comes to LGBTQ+ people and opinions may vary wildly within the same denomination. This stems from long held beliefs based on teachings passed down through ancient history, which have no place in today's world.

All religions have made compromises to adapt their rules to the modern world, if not, religions might still practice public stonings or other outrageous traditions that simply wouldn't fit in today's society. The acceptance of LGBTQ+ people must become one of these universal compromises.
