Another Oscar Controversy

Year after year we have a new host for Oscars and the ratings seems to plummet further and further each year.  This year Kevin Hart took on this thankless job, and very recently he resigned. His quick resignation did not come from the anti-gay tweets he made almost a decade ago. The reason he chose to resign was because he has already apologized.
Many from the LGBTQ community say he missed an opportunity to apologize again.  Some were thrilled he resigned. Hart’s stance is that he made stupid and ignorant comments over a decade ago, and has already apologized and people have to be forgiving and move on. This does not seem to be enough for some groups. It seems like many people chiming in don’t live in the glass house neighborhood.  Stones are being thrown, and I guess everyone is perfect. One news commentator even explained that he should give money to the LGBT community, and do community service to make amends. Basically, for this guy to make a living, he has to give money, go on an apology tour (again), and do community service. Who makes the decision that he is allowed back into society?  When did we all become so fragile? Are people not allowed to be human and make mistakes? He didn’t kill anyone, he isn’t a pedophile, he didn’t forcibly rape anyone. At what point is saying, I’m sorry ok? Roman Polanski is still getting awards and nominated for Oscars and nobody is crying foul. Additionally, after looking at the twitters of White and Jewish comedians there are equally if not more controversial tweets more recently that have not gotten this much attention as Kevin Hart’s tweet which makes me question whether this public outcry against Kevin has had anything to do with race.
At some point we all have to move on from things.  We all do and say regrettable things, we can apologize and move on.  Nobody is excusing what he tweeted a decade ago, but one must realize that people evolve.  It was a different time and the societal norms were different. Completely ignorant and inappropriate now, but a decade ago people said and did things differently.  Much like the acronym LBGTQ, people evolve as well. In fact, LBGTQ has now evolved to LGBPTTQQIIAA+ (meaning lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, intergender, asexual, ally and beyond) according to Ms. Magazine.  It has been changed over the years because it’s own community had marginalization within it and has evolved to do something about that. I guess my point is, if a community can evolve, why can’t we allow another human evolve, especially a comedian?
