Five Challenges Homeless Women Face
- Women living with mental illness have much higher rates of going homeless than the general population. In America, about 75% of women experiencing homelessness tend to suffer from undisclosed mental illnesses.
- Homeless women's access to menstruation products is often limited with the lack of resources or funds within shelters or other organizations.
- Women who are mothers who are homelessness have to deal with the burden of childcare, separation often happens because they can not provide for their own children.
- 1 in 4 women considered domestic violence to be the main factor as the reason for being homeless.
- Homeless women often are vulnerable to violence and sexual assault due to the lack of resources for safety.
