After doing a bit of research, I found an interesting article on the CA Energy Commission's Consumer Energy Center web page about a type of washing machine that will save energy and water while reducing energy and water bill costs. It's the front-loader, and it can save you 15 gallons of water per load! There are various kinds of front-loading machines, so make sure to look for ones with the Energy Star label. This label denotes appliances that meet or exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy standards.
