Minority Voting Turnout In Primaries

Voting turnout for minority populations continues to be slow compared to white citizens in California. California just had their primary elections for the 2020 election, and as usual, there was a rather large difference between white and non-white voters. In order to change the ways our government is moving, it is important to get more and more minority people to the voting polls.

According to the US Census, “57% of African American adult citizens are likely to vote compared to 68% of white adult citizens.” (Public Policy Institute of California) Throughout the next few months, we need to make conscious efforts to make minority groups feel more included in government to make them more inclined to get to the polls and use their constitutional rights.
African American people have been more vocal with their opinions in this election due to the fact that Joe Biden is doing very well. African American people are big fans of Biden, partly due to the fact that he was the vice president for Barack Obama. With hope that Biden could potentially be the next President of the United States, we have seen an increase in the amount of minority voters in the polls.
So, how can we get even more people to the polls? Minority groups should encourage their peers to vote. There is a serious power in numbers, and by encouraging one another, there should be a big increase in voting numbers. Furthermore, voting polls need to be more inclusive and inviting so that minority groups feel inclined to go.
