Homeless Population

It is not surprising to hear that Portland, Oregon is populated with lots of homeless people. The City of Portland, Oregon has seen an increase of homelessness from 2013 to 2015. Based on the City of Portland’s Homelessness Toolkit, the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Homeless number is 3,801. From 2013 to 2015 there was a 14% decrease of HUD homeless but there was <1% increase of homeless people who are unsheltered. The number of women who are experiencing homelessness increased by 15% within the two years and the number of homeless people over the age of 55 increased by 23%. To see more statistics on this topic, or to donate/volunteer, please visit https://www.portlandoregon.gov/toolkit/article/562207 . The website goes into detail about specific types of homeless people such as single adults who are homeless, youth younger than 24 who are homeless, veterans who are homeless, etc. It is baffling to see how the number of homelessness has increased within the two years, and it seems to be getting worse over time. How can we help lower the number of homeless people in the area? Please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions on this topic.
