Time for some nutty protein!

I am a big fan of having snacks on hand that I can just throw in my bag and take along with me. That being said I have a strong history of having lots of pre-packaged and processed foods on hand. I was fooled by the labels that made certain foods sound healthy but in the end anything you eat from a package is never going to be as good as something you can make on your own.

I have created a trail mix recipe to share here. It is likely a familiar mix but since it is homemade you have quality control over where you get all of the ingredients you use and you can add more of less of any of the ingredients.

This is a great high protein trail mix. Trail mix is an awesome snack for when you are on the go and just need something to munch on. It travels well and you can easily control how much you want to eat without worrying about re-packaging the leftovers.

Nutty trail mix

Ingredients:
¼ cup peanuts (9 grams of protein)
¼ cup sunflower seeds (8 grams of protein)
¼ cup pumpkin seeds (7 grams of protein)
¼ cup pistachios (7 grams of protein)
¼ cup raisins (4 grams of protein)
½ cup M and Ms or if you prefer, chocolate chips are a great addition.

Other possible add-ins:
Banana chips
Cashews
Craisins
Granola clusters
Any chocolate covered nuts
Experiment with the ingredients and have some fun with it!
This recipe makes about 4 servings.

Directions: Mix all ingredients together in a large resealable bag. Mix and enjoy.
