Why is Biodiversity Important?

Everyone that is concerned about the future wellbeing of the human race should be able to answer the question “Why is Biodiversity Important?”. Failure to answer this question is a strong sign that people are not fully aware of what is going on in the world and its resources. This is because biodiversity is such an essential component for the wellbeing of human beings and it affects so many different aspects of our life. Below there is a quote from the Convention of Biodiversity web site:

"At least 40 per cent of the world’s economy and 80 per cent of the needs of the poor are derived from biological resources. In addition, the richer the diversity of life, the greater the opportunity for medical discoveries, economic development, and adaptive responses to such new challenges as climate change."
