Most Confederate statues were created between late 1890's to 1930's which follows right after the end of the Civil war. During this time Jim Crow laws were being enacted and the first generation of African-American born outside of slavery were deemed a threat to white people and their way of life.  White southerners embraced the "Lost Cause," myth, a glorification of the "Old South" and a re-imagining of the Civil War as a heroic effort that was romanticized and painted in the best possible terms.

With events leading to the protest for George Floyd and the black lives matter movement created and awareness of this historical relevance. Many people are trying to eradicate racial inequalities in the Unite States which also brought the demolishing of statues that symbolizes and idolizes white supremacy and racism.

People are divided with what to do with the statues. For some people, these statues symbolizes heritage and events that are important in American History. But many others see these Confederate statues as a symbol of a long history of slavery of  the African Americans and the perpetual racism in the United States to date. Furthermore, President Donald trump have denounced that the removal of Confederate Statues and monuments. He claims that it is wrong and that we are destroying the culture of this country.

In my opinion Confederate statues do have historical relevance in America but I also agree to its removal because of how it affected people emotionally and how everything connect to a bad historical event in America. These statues is a reminder of the hurtful events about the past and will keep being a reminder if we do not do something about it.

These removal will eventually have a big impact in the advancements of civil right movements that recognizes foremost the equality before the law regardless of race. creed, religion, gender. However, this removal of statues does not solve everything, we need to educate and learn ways we can help destroy racial inequalities. This will only be the start of creating a positive change for people of color. We need to keep in mind that values and morals are above everything else when making a decision, we need to think for the future and how we can all unite and empower each other.
