The Poster Children of Voting Issues: College Students

In today's time, we come across a million and one reasons why politics don't strike interest in a fine majority of college students. Speaking for myself and peers, the over saturation is a big reason as to why sometimes it would be better off to not worry about politics at all. FAKE news, REAL news, we never really know what it is until it is too late and judicial decisions have been made, but by that time, we were already so out of the loop, what difference does the change even matter?
WHY?

Students spend on average 8 months on college campuses. Living in dorms limits the reach of doorknockers drastically, not to mention most students out of state aren't even allowed to vote in a different state while they are away from home and at school.

College is such a transitional time in life, most young adults are trying to find their personal identity and figure out what they want to be in this world. Political views are an annex to ones identity, and not seen as a main definer, I would argue that it is not something students actively work to figure out.

BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT'S NOT IMPORTANT

I sit here typing this post feeling as if my words will not be seen, so I ask myself what is the point? A deeper root to that question is what are you doing it for? A grade, a like, a comment? The reality of it is this, a lot of college kids today have their own lives to worry about, or so we say, when in reality we go through our motions and let everything be what it is. The downside to this is if we keep this way of living consistent, generations to come will be in even more trouble than they are today. The sense of selfishness we display individually as a generation will lead to political turmoil beyond the amount that there is today.

So whats the ultimatum...? To be or not to be. I personally, would much rather be, so if that means I have to strike an intellectual conversations amongst my peers to encourage us to go out and be active citizens, then so be it. Anything, and I mean anything would be much better than having absolutely no say in who controls the world around you.

If you are anything like me, you want to be heard, but in order for that to happen we going to have to speak up! There are many resources out there to have your voice acknowledged, below this post I will leave a few links where your opinion matters.

  1. I cannot disagree with any of these frustrations. I can say that votes, in total, do add up and count, and college students, as a group tend to have similar frustrations, so if they DID all vote as a group, they would probably be able to move the needle favorably. One way to tell what is fake or not fake in terms of news is to follow the flow of power and the flow of money, is the news is believed. This many times is a reliable clue.
