Oregon Hunger Task Force
by Emma Reinhart

Created in 1989 by the State Legislature, the Oregon hunger Task Force is a  government resource to help Oregonians who are in risk of going hungry. Linked  with a non-profit, Partners for A hungry free Oregon, the task force works to promote community awareness, open nutrition programs to citizens, and advocate for systemic change to help prevent food scarcity and hunger in Oregon.

That's Greater than the Population of Portland (Edwards, 2019).

In their plan for 2019-2022, they have three goals:

  1. 1. Oregonians have equitable access to the resources and opportunity we need to afford life’s essentials.
  2. 2. Nutritious food is accessible to everyone and nutrition support programs are adequate, effective and equitable when we need them.
  3. 3. People most impacted by hunger are leaders in designing and enacting solutions.

The task force also has meetings and listening sessions for the community to come together and hear from anti-hunger experts. Their next meeting is Tuesday, September 24 at 10 am in Room 162 at the Oregon State Capital Building in Salem.
