Where Are the Female Musicians?

Women are not represented enough in the music industry, especially when it comes to music festivals. When looking through different line-ups for festivals year after year, it came to my attention that women are rarely the headlining acts or even in the top couple lines of festival line-ups, and when they are it is a sparse amount. many female artists are —just–  as, if not more, successful than the male artists in many chart listings, so why is it that female artists aren’t included in the same things male artists are? Music festivals are notorious for not including as many female musical acts as male ones. In the “Coachella: List Of Every Lineup And Poster” on travelgrom.com it shows that in the first year of Coachella, women were not really included in the lineup as much as male acts were, and no women were included in the headlining acts. Their lineups gain more women as the years go on, however,  more means more than zero. Even when women singers were one of the headlining acts, not as many female acts were listed in the rest of the lineup as there were male acts. In Billboard’s “Year-End Top Artists” for 2018, three out of the top ten were women with Cardi B being number five in the list. Many more women were included in the rest of the list  as well, proving that they are just as popular in streaming and have as many fans as their male competitors do. But they do not get the same recognition in the media or in music festival lineups. A current example would be the Outside Lands festival line up for this year, there are eleven headliners, and one of them is a female artist.
