Gender Talk

In our society we come quick to judge people's gender. We assume a person with short hair is a male and a person with long hair is a female. We assume someones gender based on how a person look. It is because it is ingrained in our minds. We grew up in a society where blue stands for a boy and pink is for a girl.
Audrey Mason-Hyde talked about how people quick to assume they are a boy because the way they dressed and how their hair was. Audrey would get weird looks and questions when they always go into the women's restroom. Audrey would wait until everyone is out of the restroom before they go in just to avoid weird looks and questions.
Audrey went through a phase where they didn't know where they fit in and who they were. If they were considered female or male. It makes them uncomfortable for people to sit there and assume what gender they fit in.
Audrey makes a good point in this TED talk and how people need to not identify others by a certain gender. People need to understand that society is changing and there are people who does not want to be identified as a certain gender. You put them in a uncomfortable position when you do and make them think twice about themselves.
They don't have to like only one thing or certain things. Just because their style is different from what your genitals are. Just because you have certain parts on your body don't mean that restricts you from the things you like.
Everyone deserves to find their own identity without having barriers blocking them from finding themselves.
We need to be more educated about gender neutral and be open to the idea. We need to learn the correct terms to use and not assume.
Be more aware and educate yourself.  Do the research needed to learn.
